WHAT WE DO...
Risa's Corner is a non-profit organization that provides classroom items and supplies for Elementary school teachers in the Baltimore area. We help teachers create a more enriching learning environment without having to spend their hard earned money. We achieve this by matching donors with recipients' wish lists as well as accepting monetary donations. All donations go toward direct impact.

Since 2019, we have helped many amazing educators in Baltimore improve their classroom resources.

The support from Risa’s community is tremendous. I was a brand-new teacher, right out of college… with dreams bigger than I imagined. Still to this day, my teacher’s dreams are growing bigger and bigger. With all the resources I had donated to my classroom, I can make those dreams come true.

Risa’s Corner has helped to create my classroom into a “home away from home” for my students, and create a fun environment for learning. Students still talk about the day that the Risa’s Corner donations and supplies were dropped off as one of their favorite memories from kindergarten!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

There are many immediate ways to support our teachers.
-
Choose an item from a teacher's wishlist and purchase. Simply click on the designated link and you will be directed to an Amazon gift registry. We do the rest.

-
Make a monetary donation and we will direct the funds towards teachers who have been nominated as recipients.

-
Purchase donation cards. Packs of donation cards with children's artwork will be available soon for purchasing. A one time donation will get you a pack of 8 cards to use when marking a special occasion or in memory of someone. These also make great holiday gifts.

WHO IS RISA?
This picture was taken of Risa just as she began her teaching career.

Risa Bush Halpren
August 23, 1961-October 25, 2016
Risa Bush Halpren taught Elementary school in and around Baltimore for 35 years. Being a teacher was not just her profession, it was simply who she was. For so many students she was that teacher...the one who made a difference. She was a champion for students and teachers alike. Most of all, Risa lived by the philosophy to "Get the job done but don't leave out the fun stuff." This was done with an enthusiasm and creativity that often included the use of glitter, paint and other materials that delighted her students.
In 2016 Risa passed away at age 55 from colon cancer. To honor her memory we created Risa's Corner as a way to help other teachers make their classrooms a more enriching learning environment. Through generous donations we hope to foster others' creativity and passion so that they never have to leave out the fun stuff.
